Coaches comments:
A solid performance on the weekend v Camberwell. Our intent to get after the ball and apply good pressure to the opposition held us in good stead. At times we were inefficient going forward, and will look to tidy up this part of our game. Jordan Carroll was exceptional down back, well supported by Nick Canny and Matt Warren. The mids had an other dominant display, with Hughy J leading the charge in the ruck. Pinchbeck and Bazzani were at their desperate best, and Billy Johnson ran his backside off all day. Pocknee and Greeves continued their consistent seasons on the wing and up forward. Look forward to taking on Williamstown who are in good form.

Coaches comments:
The Two Blue Lions suffered a heartbreaking five-point loss to Hawthorn. After leading for much of the match, Hawthorn kicked the winning goal with only minutes remaining. It was a fierce, tight contest and one the team can be very proud of—a confidence-boosting performance that showed the Two Blue Lions can mix it with the best. Hawthorn opened strongly, but after some positional adjustments at quarter-time, the Two Blue Lions came out firing, dominating the second term, kicking three goals to none. The quarter showcased rapid ball movement and impressive midfield transitions—arguably the Two Blue Lion’s best football of the year, highlighting excellent ball use, good decision-making and team cohesion. Mikayla Collins was outstanding across half-forward, providing a constant target and strong contests, finishing with two goals in a complete performance. Molly Crighton impressed through the midfield, demonstrating her ball-winning ability, evasiveness and creative ball use. Ruck, Millie Stonnil controlled the contest all day, giving the mids first use, while Ruth Sheridan continued her fine form, playing higher up the ground this week, launching offensive drives from half-back with decisive bursts through congestion. The players will take the sting of this close loss into Saturday’s clash with Old Haileybury—a tough test and a final opportunity to fine-tune ahead of the finals campaign.

Comprehensive win against a team that has had a difficult year. Well played everyone! We move on and look forward to honing our skills and style over the next three weeks, leading up to the finals.

Coaches comments:
For Round 14 we ventured back out to PEGS playing fields for the second time this season. Picture planes flying overhead, the occasional smell of jet fuel and strong winds favouring one end. Losing the toss and kicking with the wind, we looked to move the ball on quickly and score heavily. With no time on, the clock keeps ticking down after every goal. I must applaud and thank some of the parents who made the effort to chase down the ball behind the goals and rush to get it back to the middle as quickly as possible. Small things go along way. We went into quarter time with a 36 point advantage. The players were asked to forget that quarter and switch to completely different tactics of possession, slow but deliberate short kicks into the wind and to force stoppages. Generally, deny the opposition the ball in space. The plan was executed perfectly and frustrated the opposition and they were unable to score strongly. We took an 18 margin into half time. Kicking with the wind in the third, we were again looking to move the ball quickly and into space, but to PEGS’ credit, they were able to bottle us up and it was a goal each for the quarter. A 21 point lead didn’t feel quite enough heading into the final quarter and the players were again asked to play defensively. We may have put a couple extra behind the ball as well. In what seemed like the longest 25 minutes in history, we were able to hold them to only one goal and kick one ourselves into the wind. Taking out the game by 17 points. A significant result placing us equal top spot on the ladder.
