The players are back at the ground
February 2, 2026
The Collegians Football Club has hit the ground running ahead of the 2026 season, with both the Men’s and Women’s programs building strong momentum over the pre-Christmas period and into the New Year.
More than 90 different players from across the Men’s and Women’s programs took part in pre-Christmas training, setting a strong foundation for what looks like an exciting year ahead. The energy and commitment on display early has carried through into January, with the Senior Men’s program officially returning last Wednesday and the Senior Women’s program resuming today.
Pre-season sessions have been buzzing, with Harry Trott Oval providing the perfect backdrop — sunshine overhead, music pumping, and a clear sense of purpose across the group. The atmosphere has reflected a club eager to build connection, fitness, and standards from day one.
The playing numbers across the club continue to grow strongly. At this stage, Collegians has more than 150 committed players locked in for the 2026 season, with the recruitment and retention team working tirelessly to push that number closer to 180 as pre-season progresses.
Off the track, preparations are also taking shape, with pre-season practice match schedules close to being finalised. The calendar will be highlighted by a major pre-Round 1 hit-out against Old Scotch on April 11 at Camberwell, giving both programs a strong early test before the season proper begins.
Head Coach – Men’s Program, Jordie McKenzie, said:
‘We’ve been impressed with the work that has been done over the festive season from the playing group. Numbers were strong for our first night back on Wednesday, and we look forward to ramping things up in preparation for games in March’
Head Coach – Women’s Program, Melissa Bibby, said:
‘First training is today and the excitement is real — fresh starts, shared goals, and a group ready to put in the work and enjoy the journey ahead.’
