Coaches comments:
It was a big day for the club, with club great Kenny Ong’s 100th, and Billy Richardson’s debut. We started reasonably well, and probably didn’t get reward for effort on the scoreboard. We stretched the lead in the second quarter, but had a really disappointing 10-15 minutes period which got De La back in the game. It was a pleasing second half, where we got better at executing the fundamentals, and finished strongly with a 6 goal win. Ben Van Twest continues his excellent form down back, and well well supported but Matty Warren who played an important role. Big Jonty was swung down back also, and showed his versatility with a strong performance. The midfield were terrific, with their clean hands being a highlight. Franks continues his excellent season, and Pinchbeck did a very good role on a star De La mid. The understated Jim Bazzani also put together a typical Baz game in the clinches. Richardson was a great focal point on debut, and the Swingman Sam Parsons did it at both ends, finishing with 4 goals. Big game v Old Geelong this week, who have ran into some very strong form.

Coaches comments:
We faced the league leaders on the weekend and produced a much-improved performance. The group was far more competitive, stayed in the contest, and showed greater effort across the ground. Parkdale's experience proved the difference as the game wore on and the momentum swung their way. Our new Irish recruit, Ciara, kicked our only goal in a great moment for the team. We generated plenty of opportunities, particularly in the first half, but couldn't capitalise on our forward 50 entries. Improving our connection inside 50 and maintaining strong pressure through tackling and closing down space will help us convert more consistently. This week presents a great opportunity to return to the winners list. With strong effort, intensity, and purpose at training, we can build confidence and give ourselves every chance of success. It has been a challenging season with the merger, player availability, holidays, and injuries, but the group continues to push forward. With players returning, there's plenty to look forward to in the second half of the year.
Reserves
Reserves 3-4-22 def by De La Salle 7-15-55
Best players:
Wilson MacDonald, Jordan Carroll, Kobi George, Fergus Ekins, Alisdair Nolan, Will Houghton.
Goal kickers:
Kobi George 1, Ben Hill 1, Arley Wilson 1.
Coaches comments:
Unfortunately, Hibbo has come down with the man flu, so this week’s report for the reserves is written by Josh Sugden. The Reserves were challenged by clearly the strongest side in the competition, in a result that could have looked much worse than it did. In the first quarter, we were under the pump, losing the territory battle heavily. However, Carroll, MacDonald, and the rest of the backline stood strong to ensure the game wasn't out of reach. The game followed a similar trajectory throughout, with De La winning the clearance battle and our boys forced to defend in our own half. Although the result was disappointing, there was a real sense of fight in the Reserves boys, who won't let this result derail the trajectory they're on. MacDonald and Carroll continued their strong seasons as well as Kobi George kicking another goal on top of the five last week since missing seven weeks with concussion.

Coaches comments:
We ventured across to Alphington to take on 2nd place, Parkside. It’s an interesting time of the year where most teams get a boost of talent from school players. We were no different, welcoming in some pretty handy operatives. We burst out of the blocks with a 5 minute spurt, controlling the game, before Parkside woke up. This enabled us to take a 14 point lead into the first break. Parkside’s run off half back was becoming a problem, and led to multiple goals. Scores level at half time. During the main break we threw the magnets around looking for more leg speed in the front half to counter their attacking runs out of defence. This had an immediate impact and slowed down their ball movement, which then gave our backs more of a chance at the other end. Our backline held firm, the mids ran hard and the forwards got on the end of many opportunities as a result. A 36 point quarter, our highest scoring quarter for the match. We took a 30 point lead into the last quarter and whilst they kicked the last 3 goals of the game, we never looked like being headed. A pleasing 15 point win. Places us in outright 2nd on the ladder.
