Collegians 18.13 (121) def. Beaumaris 12.7 (79)
Best players:
Alex Lukic, Hugh Johnson, Kenny Ong, Sam Parsons, James Archer, Herschel Waters
Goal kickers:
Alex Lukic 8, James Archer 3, Sam Frost 2, Hugh Johnson 1, Luke Smith 1, Max Pinchbeck 1, Jack Howard 1
Coach’s comments:
It was a much-anticipated top-of-the-table clash, and it was pleasing to come away with a strong win. Beaumaris had us on the back foot early and deservedly led at half-time.
There was a clear shift in our energy and intent in the second half, which flowed through to the scoreboard and resulted in a solid victory.
Lukic was instrumental with eight goals in his best game for the club. The midfield was strong all day, led by Johnson and Ong. Herschel Waters played just his second senior game and produced an impressive four-quarter performance, particularly around stoppages.
Parsons and Warren continued their strong starts to the season, while James Archer arguably played his best game for the club, highlighted by his competitiveness and rewarded with three goals.
We look to build on this momentum with another important clash this week against Old Geelong.
Senior Women
Collegians 6.9 (45) def. Preston 0.2 (2)
Best players:
Ruth Sheridan, April Pierlot, Katy Perre, Mikayla Collins, Hannah Singleton, Molly Crighton
Goal kickers:
Sheldon Menzies 2, Maddie Marquet-Walker 2, Tamara Daunt 1, Molly Crighton 1
Coach’s comments:
The Collegians women delivered another excellent performance on Saturday.
With several regular starters unavailable, there was increased responsibility on those who played. The group worked smartly, creating attacking opportunities from strong defensive efforts. Our transition was excellent, and the overall team structure is beginning to come together well.
Reserves Men
Collegians 16.16 (112) def. Beaumaris 8.3 (51)
Best players:
Mario McKeown, Ben Monahan, Zak Bowes, Adam Petracca, AJ Walker, Alex Gebert
Goal kickers:
Adam Petracca 4, Mario McKeown 3, Fergus Ekins 2, Will Dean 2, Lukasz Payne 1, Richie Andrew 1, Jake Cotchin 1, Oliver Andrews 1
Coach’s comments:
Ben Monahan won the first centre tap of the day and went on to dominate the ruck with over 40 hit-outs. He gave first use to the midfield, who capitalised through strong performances from Brennan, McKeown and Walker.
Great pressure from the small forwards—Andrews, Ekins, Petracca and Payne—resulted in eight goals between them, along with numerous scoring opportunities for others.
Strong run from the backline—Gebert, Van Twest, Carroll and MacDonald—led to more than 50 entries inside the forward 45. The talls, including Bowes, Wright and Kulang, made it extremely difficult for Beaumaris to take marks.
It was a very good team performance, with plenty of room for continued growth.
U/19s
Collegians 4.9 (33) def. by Fitzroy 15.8 (98)
Best players:
Will Rahilly, Lachie Nicholson, Alex Elg, Will Scott, Bailey Currie, Nico Levy
Goal kickers:
Nico Levy 2, Will Johnson 1, Harry Robbins 1
Coach’s comments:
Friday night under lights at the Trott provided a perfect setting, but we came up against top-of-the-ladder Fitzroy. They came out strongly, kicking eight first-quarter goals to take a 42-point lead at the first break.
We were able to slow their ball movement in the second quarter and even the contest. To the players’ credit, they dug deep in the second half, competing hard and applying strong pressure against a quality opposition.
While the final margin was disappointing, the group should be proud of their response after a tough start.
Thirds
Collegians 14.8 (92) def. AJAX 5.7 (37)
Best players:
Will Houghton, Louis Jorgensen, Cam Sharp, Speridan Peterson, Jake Properjohn, Alex Qureshi
Goal kickers:
Speridan Peterson 4, Will Houghton 3, Cameron Sharp 2, Fletcher Brennan 1, Jackson Cox 1, Oli Noke 1, Quinn Schwarz 1, Oliver Toussaint 1
Coach’s comments:
Penny’s Pandas made it three wins from three with a strong performance against AJAX. The side continues to showcase the depth of football at the club in 2026.
The Pandas built a solid lead in the first half, going into the main break five goals up. After a coaching handover midway through the third quarter, the team lifted again, conceding just one more goal for the match.
Will Houghton was outstanding and voted best-on-ground by his teammates. Speridan Peterson continued his excellent form up forward, while the backline was once again resolute, conceding just five goals. Co-captain Louis Jorgensen has been in terrific form across half-back, and the midfield group worked tirelessly both ways.
This weekend, the Pandas take on reigning premiers Old Melburnians in a grand final rematch.
