Coaches comments:
A big top 4 clash v the in form AJAX on the weekend, in which there was a big crowd. Warren and Pinchbeck went down in the first half with concussion, we wish them a speedy recovery. AJAX out-worked us in the first half, and we’re sharper with their ball use. We spoke at halftime about the exciting challenge that the second half brought. Down by a goal and with a couple of star plays down, our boys dug deep in the 2nd and ended up with a hard fought win. The most impressive thing was the distinct rise in Work rate despite minimal rotations. Angus Perry was our best 4 quarter player, with his aerial work being a highlight.Campbell Walker lead from the front as always. Nico Levy was the story of the day, on debut. He had a blistering and game defining second half. Will Dean and Jordie Carroll both played their first senior games for the season, and were very impressive.
Another good challenge ahead with Carey away.

Coaches comments:
We started well. Kicking 4 of the first 5 goals. AJAX kicked the last goal of the first quarter, and we led by 2 goals at quarter time. The second quarter was simply poor! Credit to AJAX, they were harder at the ball and their opponents than we were. AJAX moved the ball quickly and we found ourselves out of position, enabling AJAX to kick 6 unanswered goals. After some strong words at the half time break, about lack of effort and intensity at picking up an opponent, working into defence, punching the ball, tackling, winning the ball and taking risks - we regroup and gave a much better account of ourselves during the third quarter. We entered the fourth quarter still trailing by 4 goals but playing better. Early goals gave us a real chance and a long kick at goal late in the game, just faded for a behind and we went down by 4 points. Two highlights were the continued form of Wilson MacDonald and the return to football of Jonty McGuiness who took some strong marks up forward, kicking two goals. It is now up to the coach to use the close loss as a learning opportunity, about effort, intensity and how to stifle momentum.
If the team cannot take some learning from the loss, it will be a REALLY BAD LOSS!

Coaches comments:
Our women’s team were coming off their first loss of the season when they arrived in Glenhuntly Park in the fog at 8am. The contest started as it would finish - with the opposition contesting the play around the ball making it difficult to get the ball outside to our kickers. The whole game was an arm wrestle that we didn’t get control of until the third quarter. In a low scoring affair our women battled hard all day and came away with a 12 point win in a low scoring affair. There were some excellent passages of play into our forward line and unbelievable work by our defenders to keep the opposition from putting a score on the board. The team is improving and learning each week and look forward to the next opportunity.
Great effort from our women!

Coaches comments:
We headed to Preston for round 6 to face an undefeated Bullants team. In the First quarter we were unable to adjust to the wet slippery conditions. This saw us head into the first break 27 points in arrears. Things improved in the second quarter and we were able to even up the contest. This enabled us to keep them goalless for the quarter. There were plenty of positives heading into the main break, down only 15 points. Unfortunately, we were unable to play our best footy in the second half and this allowed the Bullants to own the game. The final margin, a significant 58 points loss.
