Coaches comments:
It was a hard fought win out at Bulleen where we took on Carey. It was a game of momentum swings. At times, we were unable to restrict Carey’s offence and they were able to gain the ascendency. Our last quarter was impressive when the game was on the line. We continued to be a threat in attack, but also sharped up our defensive game by restricting Carey’s ball movement. Jimmy Archer continues his strong season, and had some great support up forward in Will Pocknee and Scott Bielby. Caleb Franks lead the way in the midfield with a great 4 quarter effort. The backline were steadfast, with Pewtress, Perry, Frost and Van Twest all performing strongly. Nick Canny also continues his consistent year, playing well in a variety of roles. A well earned rest for the boys this week before another big block of games.

April Pierlot, Hannah Singleton, Rhianna Kilsura, Mikayla Collins, Sheldon Menzies, Katelyn Fleming.
Goal kickers:
Sheldon Menzies 2, Annabel Schmidt 1, Ashton Cotton 1.
Coaches comments:
Our women’s team took on Old Haileybury in Round 7, a side that has been performing strongly in Division 3, and produced a spirited performance that ultimately fell just three points short. The game began as a genuine arm wrestle, with both teams finding it difficult to gain territory and create scoring opportunities. It was a low-scoring first quarter, with pressure around the contest making ball movement challenging. However, when the game opened up, the Collegians women showed some excellent passages of play, including clean handball receives, strong front-and-centre work and chains of handballs that helped drive the ball forward and create scoring opportunities. Annabelle Schmidt was outstanding in attack, kicking important goals from full forward, while Ruth Sheridan once again led a resolute defensive unit with another strong performance. Across the ground, the team showed plenty of positive signs and demonstrated the foundations of the style of football we want to play. While there were encouraging moments throughout the game, we know there is another level of intensity required to consistently win games in Division 3. That will be a key focus when we return to the training track after the break. The match ultimately came down to the final stages, with Old Haileybury taking the lead in the last quarter. Despite a controversial six-point score, the game was decided by the narrowest of margins and could easily have gone either way. As always, we will focus on the things we can control, continue to improve and prepare for another challenge in Round 8 against Parkdale. We have a great foundation, a fantastic group of players and the support of two strong clubs behind our women’s program. There is plenty to look forward to as the season progresses.

Best players:
Jake Cotchin, Oliver Toussaint, Zak Bowes, Finn Wright, Arley Wilson, Jonty McGuiness.
Goal Kickers:
Ben Hill 2, Adam Celik 2, Fergus Ekins 1, Arley Wilson 1,
Coaches comments:
In general, play the first quarter was even, however we defended very well and managed to convert our opportunities. A good goal in heavy traffic by Arley Wilson, just before the siren, enable us to have a very handy lead at quarter time by 31 points. The rest of the game was very tight. We lost our way with the umpiring in the third quarter, which enabled Carey to kick 3 goals. The learning from this, is that our side will make mistakes, from the coach to players. We are not trying to make mistakes, but we do! The umpires are also not trying to make mistakes, but they do. In over 50 years of being involved in this game I cannot ever remember an umpire changing their decision. The message to the players is simple -get on with the game! Win the next contest, by working hard on the mark, to slow the opposition down. In the last quarter we played some good football, but we could not convert our forward 50 entries, kicking six points and two out of bounds on the full. In a very competitive game, we eventually ran out winners by 23points. Another quality game by Jake Cotchin at CHF and Zak Bowes at CHB. Finn Wright played his best game for the year on the full back line and mid fielders Jack Howard and AJ Walker continued their good form. In their first games for the year, Oliver Toussaint was very good down back with his speed and Adam Celik kicked 2 goals 3 behinds, in a welcome return.
19’s
19’s 12-7-79 def Old Camberwell 11-11-77
Best players:
Ned Rath, Will Johnson, Finneas Arnold, Alex Elg, Will Scott, Lachlan Nicholson.
Goal kickers:
Will Johnson 6, Alex Elg 5, Blake Stack 1.
Coaches comments:
Round 7 was against Old Camberwell who had dropped down from div 1 and had chalked up two from two wins in our division. The first half was a real arm wrestle and neither team held any real ascendancy. We went to the main break holding a 3 point advantage. The third quarter was one of our best for the season, kicking six goals. We had control all over the ground and it seemed we were in for a huge win. However, we gave them a snif in the last and they gathered momentum. This proved difficult to stop with them piling on 7 goals to our 2. It went down to the wire and we were lucky to come out two point winners. An extraordinary game to be a part of.

Coaches comments:
The Pandas got back on the winners list with a strong 6 goal win over Kew. This was the most important win of the season for the team, breaking the run of 3 losses. The recruiting team has to be commended, coming through with some stellar debuts. Archie Lalor was voted best afield by his peers in his 1st game for the club after a brilliant game across centre-half back. Dec Waddington was sublime across one wing, as was Nokey on the other. Sharpy was ever-dominant in the middle and Jorgy and Penny kicked 3 goals apiece to put scoreboard pressure on throughout the day. The team made brilliant improvements in their voice, structure and goal-kicking, which has let them down in recent weeks. The Pandas go into the long-weekend with a 4-3 record, which sits them in 4th place. With some veterans raring to pull on the boots in the coming weeks, and some players returning from injury, it seems that the Pandas season is just getting going!
